Lateral Damp

Lateral Damp

Lateral or penetrating damp can appear when moisture enters a structure in a horizontal direction, causing localised damp patches, mould and sometimes rotting timbers.

Lateral penetrating damp can be caused by a building defect such as faulty gutters, brickwork or rendering, or damp penetrating through a wall at below-ground level. Treatment will depend on the source of the problem.
