Wet Rot

Wet rot is the name for several types of fungus that attack wood in damp conditions. It has a damp, musty smell. Common causes include gutter and plumbing leaks, and roof defects.

Although wet rot cannot spread through masonry and plaster like dry rot, it can still cause serious damage. The source of the moisture must be removed and the affected wood treated or replaced.
