‘Your lads did a great job by the way, very friendly and courteous and left no mess.’
Brian Davey, Melrose

‘Bill and Allan Gray, along with their skilled team, provide a comprehensively superb and genial service. From the very initial contact, either in person, or via their effective website, they provide quality intervention, timely responses and genuine high-end expertise. Border Timberguard delivers without fuss, one of the most reliable, bespoke and best value services in the country. I will not consider using any other company again for quality and safe hands.’
Simon Duckett, Selkirk and London

‘I’ve been in the building trade more years than I care to remember, and engaged a number of subcontractors, mostly in the conversion of substandard houses and flats. Border Timberguard is one of the most genuine, thorough and reasonably priced companies I have come across. They have carried out numerous dry rot and damp course jobs in the last 25 years. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.’
Scott Elliott & Sons, Joiners

‘Cullen Kilshaw have now been involved in the housing market in the Borders for nigh on 30 years, and during that period we have often had to deal with clients facing real problems with rising damp, damp penetration and outbreaks of wet rot and dry rot. Our first port of call has always been Bill Gray at Border Timberguard, where we have been very well served. We know that our clients will get a thorough and careful survey, a realistic quotation of likely repair costs, and a professional job with a guarantee at the end of it that means something.’
David Kilshaw OBE, Partner, Cullen Kilshaw, Solicitors, Galashiels, Melrose and Peebles

‘I have employed Border Timberguard on two occasions for quite large jobs. On both occasions, I found Bill Gray and his men professional and very reliable. They were courteous and tidy (not leaving you with the mess). They demonstrated integrity in their advice to us, and I would not hesitate to recommend them.’
Ken McIntosh

‘I would like to say how delighted we are with the job that was done. Your team of workers were excellent. There was virtually no disruption to the rest of the house, for which my wife was very grateful, as she had dreaded the thought of the work needed. Please give them our thanks.’
Dr AW Arbuckle, Melrose

‘We have found Border Timberguard to provide a professional and skilled service whose work you can trust. This is why we have asked them back on a number of occasions over the past 10 years. Bill has extensive knowledge and is very thorough in working out and explaining the nature of the problem, and the work needed to remedy it. The tradesmen are helpful and obliging, and always careful and attentive.’
Ian and Karen, Chapel on Leader

I am contacting you to thank you for the thorough work your company carried out when repairing our outbreak of dry rot. We had quotes from several firms, but I am very glad that we opted to use Border Timberguard. Your price was competitive, and I am sure that the care with which the work was carried out could not be matched. It was only when the work began and I was shown the crumbling wood I realised how necessary it had been to get the repairs done. Five weeks later our house looks better than it did before!
The discovery of dry rot had come at a very bad time for us as my husband was about to have major surgery. The situation was made less painful by the fact that every attempt was made to minimise disruption, and mess. I will most certainly recommend your company to friends – in fact I have already done so.
Jennifer and Mike Allerhand

I had cause to use Border Timberguard on two different properties.
The first occasion was a severe case of dry rot running over the front of our house. The work required was extensive, invasive and harrowing.
Initial contact was with Bill Grey who expertise was informative and manner reassuring. The team from Border Timberguard were professional, efficient, polite, kept me informed, at all times, through the stages of work and were sympathetic to our situation.
During the destructive phase of the work the team made a every effort to keep disruption and mess down to a minimum. During the reinstatement part of the work they showed excellent workmanship in joinery, plastering and tiling.
My final bill was less than my estimate. This was thanks to the diligence and care of Craig, and the other men working in the house, who managed to remove a large timber lintel and replace it with, I recall 5 concrete lintels. The timber lintel was behind an ornate Victorian cornice, which if it had been knocked out would have cost thousands to restore. I saw the last lintel going into place. It took great effort and was no mean feat positioning it without damage to the cornice, it would have been a lot easier and no skin off the mens noses if they had just knocked it out.
Whilst getting quotes for dry rot treatment I was advised to ensure the company that I used offered an insurance backed guarantee.  This advice was invaluable as 12 months after the treatment this guarantee was necessary for the sale of our house.
The second occasion was another old property which was full of woodworm. Although a much smaller job, the professionalism and efficiency of Border Timberguard showed again and was greatly appreciated.
Since using Border Timberguard I have had several occasions to phone and ask Bill for timber advice, which he has always been gracious to give.
Should I need the services of a timber preservation company again, I would look no further than Bill Gray and Border Timberguard.
Keith, Scottish Borders
